Medical institutions have historically relied on retributive approaches to address racism. While important, we argue that these individualized interventions are insufficient in addressing the structural and cultural factors that allow racism and its harms to persist in medicine. Thus, we advocate for restorative and transformative justice practices that prevent further harm, give voice to those harmed, and focus on the social circumstances that create harmful conditions
